Jacobus Alfons, or Bobby to his family and friends, loved Dutch Jenever but missed the taste of home. In 1950, Bobby started infusing his Jenever with familiar Indonesian spices and herbs, unknowingly creating his own gin and laying the foundation for Bobby’s Schiedam Dry Gin. Years later, Bobby’s grandson, Sebastiaan discovered an old Jenever bottle at his mother’s house. Inspired by the story of his grandfather, and the unique Indonesian recipe, he went to Schiedam - the city where gin was born. There he met with the seventh-generation master distiller of Herman Jansen Distillery and together they started working on creating a unique gin, blending the tradition of Schiedam Jenever with the best East Asian botanicals and spices. They replicated the same bottle shape that Sebastiaan discovered at this mother’s house, adding the traditional Indonesian IKAT design; bringing the old and the new together.

Produced in Herman Jansen Distillery. It is one of the oldest (since 1777) and best (winner of world class distillery) family owned Distillery Herman Jansen. The recipe took almost two years to perfect. Bobby’s Gin combines the two worlds of East and West in a singular bottle by using botanicals from both sides of the world. Lemongrass, cloves, cinnamon, juniper from the East. Rose hips, fennel, cubeb pepper, and coriander from the West.

Tasting Notes:

NOSE: floral at first, with rose notes coming to the fore, with lemon and lemongrass falling in line behind it.
TASTE: the rosehips are sweet an pungent; the lemongrass is citrusy and herbal with menthol tones blending with anise/fennel character; the clove and spice is unmistakable. Incredibly smooth on its own or in a cocktail.
